Аннотация

This paper examines the significance of Mendeleev's discovery of the periodic table of elements in 1869 and underscores the importance of his honorary membership in the Academy of Sciences in Zagreb, Croatia, which occurred in 1882, making it the first scientific academy in Europe to extend this recognition. The article explores the contextual circumstances contributing to this noteworthy event within the broader European context. The authors conduct a comprehensive review comparing the reception and educational influence of the periodic table in select European countries including Russia, Germany, Czech Lands, and Serbia, with particular focus on Croatia. The study reveals that despite the periodic table's initial lack of acceptance in Croatia due to the absence of well-established chemical science, Croatian chemical education eventually followed the development of the periodic table through secondary and university curricula.
